Happy New Year ya'll!
It's been a long ass time since I updated this puppy, but in my own defense, I've been incredibly busy the last few months. In late October of 2007, I accepted the Senior Concept Artist position at Handcranked Games a subsidiary of Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment.
Since they needed me to start ASAP, I had literally ten days to pack up all of my belongings and my lil' family and move to Mesa Arizona to start work on November 1st of 2007. Which was much easier said than done, but miraculously we managed to pull off our move and all the things involved with moving to a new city in ten short days. It was certainly a test of will because I was getting about 3 hours of sleep a night as I was packing during the day and working feverishly to complete a good half dozen commissions I had on my plate at night.
Fortunately once I got into the studio, I clicked almost instantly with the rest of my team. Speaking of my team; I'm working with a core team of some of the greatest names in the industry, not the least of which is David "Zeb" Cook, our Lead Designer. Who along with creator Gary Gygax, wrote and helped invent the legendary role playing game; Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. Which in no small way helped fuel my own creativity and love for fantasy art as a very young child. Thanks again Zeb! I should also mention my Art Director, Mark Thompson. Who is not only one of the the best bosses you could ever ask for, but is a freaking blast to hang out with and all around great dude.
When I'm not at the studio working, I've been spending most of my time with Amy and settling in to our new lil' life here in Mesa (For those of you not familiar with Arizona, Mesa is basically a suburb of Phoenix. Connected to Tempe, Scottsdale and the rest of the Phoenix metropolitan area). Speaking of the lovely Amy; I finally made an "honest" woman out of her last December when we were married on December 17th, 2007. It's a trip saying "my wife Amy" now, but in all honesty not much has changed. After being together for almost 9 years and being engaged for two of those years, we know each other very well. She's my best friend and I love her more and more every day. I'm one seriously lucky bastard, nuff said. Alas... I'm sure one day she'll wise up and leave my ugly, obnoxious ass, but I'm going to enjoy my time with her until that day! Love you baby, for ever n' ever.
My work in the studio has been taking up most of my time, but I've done a couple commissions and personal pieces here and there over the last two months. I've put a couple new pieces up on the site for your viewing pleasure. The first is another commission done for SQP. It's a barbarian babe pin-up and can be found in the Work done for THE MAN section of the gallery. The other piece is personal work; an ink drawing of an owl monkey skull and can be found in the Personal Work section of the gallery.
Hope you dig the new artwork and I hope your New Year is a filled with prosperity and good health!!!
Peace,
M

Well, it's been over 3 months since my last update. What can I say?.. It's been a crazy summer. Some good times, some disappointments. But I'm keeping my head above water and I still have my family, friends and (moderately) good health. So, I can't really complain. Would be nice to take a break from the bullshit though... Hopefully I'll get my wish soon.
Seems life is testing me the last few months with a relentless onslaught of proverbial kicks in the nuts, but I'm up for the challenge. I missed this year's Comic Con due to a planned move out of state to Escondido California. My girl Amy and I planned the move for two months, had a place secured (or so we thought), had all of our belongings packed up and ready to load in the Penske when we get a call from our soon to be landlord informing us that she had decided to rent the place to someone else. Oh, and did I mention that she waited until 2 DAYS before our move to tell us this?!
This obviously left me holding my nuts wondering what the hell we were going to do... Do we still move to Escondido, burn up our money staying in a hotel with our two dogs while we search for a new place in the San Diego area? Or do we stay in Arizona, which we can't stand, but is familiar and "easy"? We opted for Arizona, even though we were dying to get out of here. So, we'll still be here for at least the next year until our lease is up and we can plan another So Cal move. They say everything in life happens for a reason, maybe now just wasn't our time to move...
Ok, enough about my personal crap. While life was doling me out a tremendous ass whooping this summer, I still did manage to get a few new pieces done. A couple of which I've put up on the site. First is an ego-stroking self portrait/promotional piece I did back in June. You can find it in the Personal Work section of the gallery. Second is one of the new DC cards I did for the "DC Legends" set. Got to paint Doomsday this time, one of my favorites! You can find him at the top of the Work done for THE MAN section of the gallery.
Guess that does it for now kiddies. I hope you dig the new artwork and as soon as "THE MAN" gives me the ok, I'll post some new stuff... Oh and I turned the big 30 last month! OUCH!
Much love to you and yours.
Peace,
M

Yes folks, I finally stopped procrastinating and put up the new liquidwerx website after a 2½ year hiatus! And coincidentally right on the heels of my gallery spread in the July 2007 issue of Heavy Metal! Big thanks to Kevin and Howard for the opportunity to show my work in the pages of the best fantasy art magazine on the planet, it is a true honor. If you haven't had a chance to peep it yet, please go out and kop an issue or ten and help support the cause!
The site is simple, but it serves it's purpose. I wanted to focus on my two main visual influences, illustration and design. I feel this site does that, I hope you agree. I've been keeping busy the last 2+ years working for the "MAN" and pimpin' my personal work in my free time. Hey it's a hard job, but somebody's gotta do it.
There's a lot of new work to check out in the galleries, hope ya'll dig it.
Catch you cats next month. If you're feeling frisky, drop me a line and let me know what you think of the new work.
Take it easy,
M
